The Commissioner, Lagos State Police Command, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and tactical commanders to embark on massive raids of identified black spots as part of efforts to clamp down on criminals in the state.
He also directed officers to immediately enforce the order of the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, on unauthorised use of vehicle tint permits, sirens and Police SPY Number plates.
The police chief gave the orders on Monday while addressing senior officers, Divisional Police Officers and Heads of Departments at the POWA Hall, Oduduwa Crescent, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
He noted that existing tint permits remain valid and new vehicles with factory-fitted tints are exempted, but that vehicles with other forms of tints other than factory-fitted should be impounded and the owners apprehended and charged to court accordingly.
Odumosu also told the officers to arrest vehicle owners who use siren and police SPY Number plates without authorisation and impound their vehicles.
According to him, approved police SPY number plates must be fixed and used on registered trucks/pick up vans, not on private SUVs or cars.
He stressed that anyone who violates this order and does not enjoy constitutional immunity should be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the relevant laws, as reported by eagleonline.
The CP appealed to the general public to be obedient and law-abiding, assuring that the command would exploit all constitutional means to curb crimes and criminality in the state.
He also warned officers and men of the command to carry out their duties diligently and professionally, warning that misconducts would be met with severe sactions.
